Stabicraft abreast of consumer confidence wave
Stabicraft Marine has walked away from Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show in Auckland with two prestigious awards and record orders.
The Invercargill boat manufacturer was judged first equal for the BoatingNZ/NZ Fishing News Boat of the Show Awards Best Aluminium Boat under 7metres with its new 2150 Supercab, scoring equal points with Extreme 650 Game King, and also the award for most innovative stand.
The coveted Boat of the Show Overall Winner Award went to another Southerner, Milton based McLay Boats for its McLay 735S.
The real prize, however, was the public vote of confidence in both Stabicraft and the economy, with Stabicraft Marine selling eight boats during the four day show.
“This is far and away our most successful boat show in 23-years of trading,” sales manager Sean McColl said.
The 2150, a model so new the ink was drying on its brochure enroute to the show, enscapulated the essence of Adventure with Confidence. Aimed at the fisherman the 6.71m cabin boat can carry up to seven adults and its 200 litre underfloor fuel tank gives it the range for off-shore fishing.
For the first time in New Zealand a swimming pool was used to showcase the company’s famous on-water stability, a message underscored by inflatable toy life-rings for the kids.
“Boat shows may be family events but really they’re aimed at adults – as parents ourselves we know the importance of keeping the kids interested and involved.
“We’ve handed out balloons in the past, and tattoos – the life-rings were a fun, simple way of appealing to kids and it seems they appealed to the judges as well,” Mr McColl said.
The boats sold ranged from big to small – from Supercab through midrange to Fish’rs.
